The Last Faith Review (Shadowcleaver)
I was waiting on this game since first I saw it, attracted by the style and atmosphere and being a fan of Metroidvanias. I was a bit worried about the soulslike imprint because I am not a fan of those games. After playing the demo, and trying hard on the first boss ( that it is not the giant you encounter first, in the full version) my fears grew that I would not be able to progress and enjoy the game. Even the normal monsters felt like a chore. Now after playing it and beating the first boss I think that I can enjoy it. As all metroidvanias, there is a learning curve that, with patience, let you overcome the challenges before you. I hope that this is the case for the rest of the game as well :D. I really don't get people who think the game is average or clunky. I feel the controls are good. It is a little different from other metroidvanias and requires maybe a little adjustment, but I think it is solid. As for the average part, well I think people want originality at all costs, even if it is not good. I prefer something that recalls to other things but does it good. And, for me, that is the case here. Sure it can look a bit like Blasphemous, but I think it has its own stile. And let's not forget that Simphony of the Night came first, so...
Only complaints for me, at this point: the lack of infos in game for what each player stat do, making it a little frustrating and confusing leveling up. And then, the lack of a feature to refund points and reassign them, even more felt because of the lack of infos. And seeing as different weapons have different stats prefences, and new weapons are found as you progress, I think that the option to rearrange the progress of your characther shoud be a given. One other thimg: I understand no pause during game is a souls feature, but It Is a stupid One. People ha thinghs tò do, responsiblities, emergencies, other people demanding attention, they have to eat, drink and go tò the bathroom. There should be an option to abilitate the pause for those that want It.
In any case, for all who enjoy metroidvanias, I reccomend this game. It can be a little more challenging maybe but it can be done.
