The Electrifying Incident: A Monster Mini-Expedition Review (Hijacker02)
I beat this game in 38 minutes, and I am not impressed.
I thought this game would have more depth to it after playing the demo and following Snowman/Expedition, but it doesn't really do anything interesting or unexpected with the main mechanic. Instead, most of the puzzles have really obvious solutions, and the resulting gameplay is entirely in the execution, which is not the fun part about playing sokobans. The only thing that I find interesting is the second ending achievement (which I haven't earned at the time of this review), but that's it.
The previous two games both explored breaking the boundaries of individual puzzles to create entirely new puzzles, and this game sort of does that. While the other games feature this as an additional challenge, this game requires it, which I think is used to the game's disadvantage, simply because the puzzles have no depth beyond just remembering which rooms have boxes available. The previous games forced you to think of creative solutions, and they also have mechanics that let you view a large area and plan out the best way to attempt these kinds of puzzles.
This game also features cutscenes that just break the flow of gameplay and don't develop anything interesting. I don't see a reason to have multiple of these, since the game isn't long and they don't affect the puzzles in any way.
I'm a fan of Draknek and Friends, but this one is a miss. The other two monster games are great; play those instead.
