The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Review (Fumi Karisawa)
I am writing this from lore perspective, and it is really, really bad.
The Greenpact is washed down to just a method to manipulate the woods, the Bosmer are washed down to "bloodline of Alyeid", all those theories has no backup, only some NPCs force you to eat all down.
The abrupt and shallow involvement of Many Paths almost completely destroy the previous interesting concepts of Dragonbreak, Chim, Magnus, the nature of Daedra and the Prisoner theory. And also the ending of banishing ithelia into a reality without magic and daedra sounds so off place, and if you think about it, the entire Tower holds the stability of the world thing is shaking, Aubis and Godhead theory crumples. Also, it remains very unclear why they make Many Paths a thing without being able figure out where it can stand, since shadow magic is a thing, the crystal tower is a thing, the tower staff is a thing.
Ithelia's concept is blurry at best, paradoxical at worst. She has nothing new to add and just being forced to different places as a plot tool. They also copy paste determinism (maybe a hint to sotha sil?) yet nothing deep is added, only the basic surface level of understanding stands. Her entire theory of "Mortals doesnt need a fate changer to changer their fate and they are in fact got the power to change daedra's fate" sounds very, very, very weird and doesnt really stand, consider....TES lore.
Generally, the entire main quest feels like coming from other games and other world, not TES.
Edited: wanna add a bit more from a more general writing perspective.
To sum up, this zone suffer a lot from lacking actual content. They chose a topic that requires a lot of depth and renown understanding of TES lore: a brand new Daedra Prince and Bosmer and they failed at it.
In main quests, we are requested to travel here and there, solving some kind of suface-level conflict without actual depth towards it: end an invasion here, kill a king there, but the lack of motive of it becomes frustrating real quick. (tbh what IS DAWNWAY other than "different from greenpact"? how is it different? how it keeps bosmer from being ooze again? how ayleid is affecting it? you will get NO answers; and conversations with ithelia will tell you nothing other than "yeah multi-universe is a thing" but how about dragonbreak? does magnus know it? and how about the crystal-tower? you will be given NO content before Ithelia and her existence being erased, again.)
In side quests, there is a significant lack of actual zone lore: we have 10 points of interest, yet 4 of them are actually part of the main quest; in the rest 6, 3 of them are adventure with famous NPCs from previous DLCs.
Furthermore, the major characters are 85% of plot machines and 15% of personality traits (instead of actual personality) , Ithelia, one of the major focus, might be the one showing it the most.
In conclusion, if you care about the writing quality of a ESO DLC, this one is not for you, really, really, really NOT for you. From a personal note, I am greatly disappointed at this 10 anniversary story is presented like that.
