The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Review (AlekshaLive)
10/10 (Long story short) Oblivion is a masterpiece with gripping storylines, extraordinary world building, plenty of combat, and character progression that puts newer games to shame.
My takeaway: I loved this game way too much. I wanted more after playing Skyrim so I had gotten this game because I couldn’t get enough and I’m so glad I did. The story is amazing, the world is amazing, the soundtrack is amazing, the character progression and creation are amazing, and the gameplay blew me away. I couldn’t peel myself away from the screen and even took off work because I couldn’t stop playing. If you’re a fan of the Elder Scrolls games or even just looking for a place to start then Oblivion is highly recommended!
I played this game entirely unmodded but from what everyone is saying it seems like the modding community for this title is still thriving and making the game better and better but even purely vanilla it was so much fun exploring the world and building my character to be who I wanted her to be. Even with the slightly dated graphics I still believe this game is more visually appealing than a lot of newer games I see get pushed up. It’s well worth your time- just buy it!
Pros
Storyline is one of the best I’ve ever played; shocking, gripping, and loads of fun!
Character creation.
Class creation.
Tutorial does an outstanding job at teaching you how to play while throwing you to the wolves.
Music and sound effects are fitting and easy to listen to.
World building is outstanding.
You can easily grow attached to the characters.
Different playstyles are supported and all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Combat is easy and fun.
Beautiful world to explore.
You can replay this game a hundred times and never get tired of it as there’s so many hidden quests and ways to play.
Books are a great pastime and are very fun to read to entertain or have you learn about the world.
Voice acting is easily some of the best I’ve ever seen.
Cons
I grew attached to a few characters and I found that after completing their storylines I was stuck with a shell of the character I grew to love. The characters get stuck in these time loops where you can’t do anything about it after their time is up.
Creepy eyes that will haunt you in your dreams in the form of close ups.
Dungeons can be repetitive.
Oblivion planes end up being increasingly more annoying after losing their wow factor.
