The Darkness II Review (Ltm1900)
"You don't control the Darkness, the Darkness controls you."
I remember this quote and I'm happy to play again. I could remember having the tentacles doing brutal but exciting special attacks - slice people in pieces to get ammo/health boosts, The Darkness was one of my favorite fantasy FPS back then, with rich story and exciting shootings. It's nice to experience it again, except for the lag and sync issue the game is fun. I especially enjoy the switch between reality and the fake asylum - bringing every close family/friends as inmates/doctors in the asylum, persuade Jackie take pills and accept treatment is an brilliant idea, not sure if this is also in the comic book, and for a moment I hesitated if the mafia thing was an illusion until I made Jackie jump off the roof making the fake characters burned and screamed. The horror ride with Jenny at the carnival was very amusing, I only wish devs allow players to replay that part again. And that raid at the cemetery, breaks Jackie's Aunt's coffin and makes her body drop? That is something bald. Vinnie said "She's home now, right? Buried here with the rest of your family" means something to me, as I lost my granny less than a month ago and we decided to bury her with grandpa.
The gameplay is about eliminating enemies and breaking light resources, using firearms or melee weapons or tentacle attacks. The highlight is there are various kinds of things you could use as weapons, even picking up a body to throw at enemies is allowed and with the help of Darkness, most enemies are vulnerable. There is one execution scene that instantly reminds of Dishonored.
The end is not finished, I wish 2K could bring Darkness III on PC. The main game is around 5 hours and I also tried Vendettas for another hour, which is more of an FPS with new characters, new attack and new maps.
I recommend this game.
