The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope Review (Jxnebug)

As much as I can see the love and care that went into this game, I cannot ignore the fact that this game was weaker than the previous entry of this anthology, Man of Medan. It's like pulling teeth to get me to play this game, since this game had predictable jumpscares, long cutscenes, and nonthreatening monsters.
I'll start with the good. The prologue was very strong and gave me high hopes for this game; I also loved the tidbits about the witch trials. The characters from this game were a lot more fun and dynamic than the previous entry, MoM. The designs of the monsters are also creepy and incredibly well thought out--but that's all they were. Creepy. Only one of them seemed like an actual threat to me, considering three out of the four monsters were walking like they were snails with twigs up their asses. The one threatening monster that actually made me fear for my character's life also appears for the first time at the very end of the game. Go figure.
I caught on pretty quick that a certain character has plot armor and wasn't scared at all while playing them. It really took away from the experience, knowing I was pretty much safe or at least who would be targeted specifically. They also warn you when QTE's are about to happen, thus making them a whole lot easier to pass--this could be a plus for some, but for me it took the suspense out of the gameplay.
I kept waiting for something to happen in this game. But, this whole game was just walking around lost in a forest with a silhouette of something that COULD BE scary--but we'll never know 'cuz we only see their toenail--600 miles away the whole time. Also, the cool witchcraft motifs are not as present as I "hoped". Considering the trailer, I fully expected to be immersed completely in 1690 Little Hope. But whatever, that's all this game was for me, just a whole bunch of little hopes crushed. Get it on sale if you must.
