The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story Review (riCEOokami)
Updated Review!
If you want to record or stream it's a hard no, specifically asked by Square Enix.
Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Love the concept of the game and imo beautifully executed.
As an FMV it's done really well. Cinematography is amazing and they have great actors in there. I was constantly kept on my toes, intrigued and immersed in the story. Everything pieces together so well!
Pros about this game:
-Immersive, fantastic cinematography, music, actors, props, sets and story.
Cons:
-After watching a story unfold you are put into your 'mind space' where you piece together clues about people, actions and events. This unfortunately gets a bit tedious. I spent quite a period of time just "matching" clues.
-Matching clues, means literally matching clues. You have hexagons with a pattern/clue and they all have a matching counterpart. Which makes this a chore and not as mentally stimulating. But, even so, it doesn't give you the answer. That part still needs to be figured out by you.
-With both above qualms they do however, provide you with "essence" which make the matching pieces glow to help you find them, because honestly, you will need them at some points.
-Shouldn't be labelled a choose your own story.
Overview:
I really recommend if you love detective stories and solving mysteries. Never once did I know exactly how it would play out! Each story was different but beautifully connected.
If you're looking for an interactive game, it's not. You press 'E' every now and again when there's a clue. However, at the end of the game it does provide a little something extra which was a welcome surprise and super cool. But in it's entirety, it's basically a movie; which is what I love about it.
The price, personally a fair price. Yes ofc it's exp since it's Square Enix, but the quality of it is so fantastically done it'd be worth the same from any other publisher/developer.
Mind you, I'm a huge fan of Square Enix, Japanese lore, myths and detective games.
I wouldn't recommend it for those who want to play something.
