Ten Dates Review (eposic)

I really enjoyed this game. You start by filling out your profile, after which you meet five people on speed dating. I only played the male MC, so don't know if the female MC's routes were the same, but the male MC was given a chance to speak to five potential dates: four females and one gay male. During the discussions with the dates, the MC had to make choices as to how to respond or sometimes what actions to take, and the story progressed accordingly.

Choices certainly matter in this game. In my first playthrough, them MC managed to get some second dates, but none of them wanted a third date, which felt like a real bummer, to me, personally. But the failures gave me insight as to what the correct answers might be for those second dates to possibly turn into third dates. On my second playthrough, the MC managed to get a third date, but the date said the MC wasn't for her, so it wasn't a successful playthrough. Same went for the third playthrough, although at this point I'd pretty much learned what was needed for the MC to succeed at the third date with a particular one of the girls. So on the fourth playthrough, the MC only sought any dates with the one girl, and managed to have a successful third date. It felt so good... to me, personally, for that to happen.

I'm sure I'll do more playthroughs of this game, perhaps going with the female MC a time or two even. I wish the dates were a little longer... I finished four playthroughs in three hours. Of course, the second and subsequent playthroughs don't take as long as the first playthrough, since I was able to skip scenes played in previous playthroughs. It's just, when I skipped scenes, it sometimes skipped the question I was to answer next, with no way to rollback to it, forcing me to either remember the question from seeing it before, or simply guessing... which really messed me up during the second playthrough when I guessed wrong because I just couldn't remember the question.

There's no time for lengthy consideration of one's choices, since the selection of options is timed. In the preferences, it appeared I could select an option to turn off the timer, but I didn't do it. To me, it was more fun to keep the timer on.

I'd have liked the dates to each be a good bit longer. I mean, the first dates are all speed dating rounds, so maybe they could stay as they are, at five minutes each, but the second and third dates would have been nice to have lasted longer, maybe twice the length they are.

The audio and video were of great quality, the game running without any hiccups on my machine. The actors in my playthroughs were all great, superbly portraying the emotions of their characters. I felt I could read their reactions well enough to know when I chose an option that counted against the MC's chances at getting another date. I recognized one of the actresses from a British TV show I like, and that was a plus. The setting of the game is London, as I recall, which might make some of the language used a little confusing for some players from America or other countries. It wasn't a problem for me, as I've watched a fair many British TV shows in my day.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun. It didn't hurt that I got the game at a decently discounted price, too.

I'll definitely be playing this game some more eventually. Overall, I'd rate the game at 9/10.
