Tekken 7 Review (xxadonisxx)

TEKKEN 7 delivers hard-hitting, stylish combat and a satisfying conclusion to the long-running Mishima saga. With its deep mechanics, expansive roster, and competitive polish, it stands tall as one of the best entries in the series—though not without a few missed punches.
TEKKEN 7 refines the series' classic 3D fighting system with tight, responsive controls and a well-balanced mix of accessibility and depth. It’s welcoming to newcomers, thanks to simplified combo paths and Rage mechanics, but offers immense complexity for veterans who want to dig into frame data, movement, and character-specific mastery.
Key new features include:
-Rage Art: A cinematic, high-damage super move triggered at low health, adding dramatic finish potential.
-Rage Drive: A more technical option offering combo extensions or pressure.
-Power Crush: Absorbs mid and high attacks during certain moves, rewarding strategic aggression.
The mechanics reward offensive play without completely neglecting defense. Movement is slightly slower than previous entries, but the action remains fluid and impactful.
With over 50 characters (including DLC), TEKKEN 7 boasts one of the most varied and exciting lineups in the genre. Series staples like Kazuya, Heihachi, and Jin return, joined by unique newcomers like:
-Claudio – a stylish exorcist with long-range attacks
-Katarina – a kick-heavy fighter perfect for beginners
-Josie, Shaheen, and Lucky Chloe – adding fresh styles and regional flair
Plus, surprising guest fighters like Akuma (Street Fighter), Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), and Negan (The Walking Dead) bring new mechanics and fan service in equal measure.
TEKKEN 7’s story mode, The Mishima Saga, aims to tie up the decades-long feud between Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin. While the plot hits some melodramatic highs and delivers big action set-pieces, its delivery is inconsistent—often jumping between cinematic brilliance and awkward narration.
Still, the game looks great, with detailed character models, dramatic lighting, and impactful effects. The soundtrack is dynamic and energetic, keeping fights intense and memorable.
The online mode is solid, with ranked and player matches and support for tournaments. Lag can occasionally be a problem (especially before updates improved netcode), but the matchmaking system generally works well.
Customization options let you dress fighters with ridiculous or stylish outfits, giving the game a playful edge. Treasure Battle is a fun single-player mode for unlocking gear and currency, but outside of that, solo content is fairly limited.
Pros:
-Excellent, refined combat that’s easy to learn, hard to master
-Diverse and creative character roster
-High production values with flashy moves and satisfying impact
-Rage and Power Crush mechanics add exciting risk-reward dynamics
-Strong competitive support and tournament presence
Cons:
-Story pacing and tone are uneven
-Limited single-player content beyond Story and Treasure Battle
-Some guest characters feel mechanically out of place
-Online play was shaky at launch (largely improved)
TEKKEN 7 is a worthy evolution of the franchise—an accessible yet intricate fighter that closes the book on the Mishima feud with explosive flair. While its story mode and single-player offerings could be deeper, its combat and character variety carry it far. Whether you're here for competition, lore, or just to see Akuma punch Heihachi through a volcano, TEKKEN 7 delivers.
