Tekken 7 Review (Core Values Ep. 34)
I was going to make this a really long and detailed review, including a timeline, examples, and links to specific events that shaped this game (negatively) over the last couple of months/years...
However, I ultimately decided against it because the average person looking to buy this is naturally not going to have the same level of passion or understanding as someone who is already involved in the game and the community.
So here's the short and skinny of it:
Tekken 7 is great game at its core, marred by stupidity, incompetence, and greed...
If you are looking to pick up a new fighting game (and don't have friends or a local community to play with), then this isn't it - seriously, save your money and get into one of the many (and better) fighters currently available on Steam.
What was once arguably one of the best fighting games of the last 10 years, has descended into an absolute pile of garbage.
The producer(s) have repeatedly been at odds with the community, choosing to ignore positive criticism at best, and attacking the community at worst.
They have also repeatedly lied about their decisions and mistakes in an attempt to deflect responsibility, later deleting the evidence or denying their own statements altogether.
DLC characters were made so all-around 'perfect', when compared to vanilla characters, that even nerfs did little to stop the powercreep - making the assertion that DLC characters are really just Tekken 7's form of 'pay-to-win' eerily plausible.
The online community (which will be your only source of matches if you do not have a local community/friends) is plagued by cheaters, savescummers, pluggers, and just all around insufferable morons.
So on the rare occasions where the bad netcode doesn't mess with your experience, there's a good chance that some random scumbag will!
All in all, Tekken 7 peaked in Season 2, and it's been nothing but downhill since Season 3.
Go play something else and preserve your sanity... or wait for Tekken 8 (and hope they don't find an even better way to screw us over in the interest of monetization).
PS: If you have read this far and would like to have more details, or concrete examples of the issues I have mentioned in this review, feel free to add me and I will be happy to provide you with more info.
No longer taking random adds because of too many goofballs, and weirdos who feel the need to defend their favorite corporate overlord(???) wasting my time.
Guess we really can't have nice things.
