Teardown: Folkrace Review (touc)

No neutral review, so I'm giving this a positive review, but I don't feel nearly as strongly about it as I should.
Let's start with the positives. This DLC is $8. I think that's worth keeping in mind. Most games' in-app purchases are larger than that. You get far more content than you would in most modern games, and I think that's very commendable. Secondly, the racing is actually fun. I did find myself wishing there was more to it at times. I loved the elimination races, even if it isn't a new concept. I did have a lot more fun playing this DLC than I thought I would going into it.
Now on to the negatives. The racing has problems. There's the obvious ones that a lot of racing games have - The first half of the first lap determines far too much. If you get out in front, it's very hard to fall behind if you don't crash. On the flipside, it's very difficult to catch the driver in 1st if they don't crash themselves. Additionally, the AI is just far too aggressive a lot of the time. I know this isn't an ultra-competitive racing game, but being driven off the road by an AI just gets frustrating after a while. Oh and the derby events. God they're terrible. Sometimes you just don't get points. Sometimes you give other racers points when you clearly should've gotten them. Retry-spamming is far more effective than it should be. Towards the end of the Folkrace campaign, I honestly found myself glad that it was finished.
Ultimately, I *did* enjoy this DLC, and I'd struggle to give it a negative review, given the price, but this is definitely a step down from the main game. I do have a lot of complaints about this DLC, but on the whole, I don't feel negatively about it.
