Synduality: Echo of Ada Review (狼)
Note, below are the game problems before completing a quest called, "Drifter License A Final Exam," for the Association that locks you out of North and South Amasia... once you complete said quest you'll be locked into a single map called East Amasia that combines both locations and amps up the PvE difficulty forcing you to use higher level mechs... however, all the same problems below persist; the only difference now is the mech level differences are exponential, and the ability to accomplish things in a white mech (The Free one) without ammo and aid kits is near impossible now.
A lot of the people who rate this game positively probably aren't being hunted down by PvP tryhard players who's only goal is to constantly hunt down whatever PvE player they can see, or even camping the closest exit location now that East Amasia can screw you over by having the exits all on the southern part of the map forcing players in the North to head down only to be ambushed and farmed by PvP players.
Some PvP players even have started ganging up together to make the game even more miserable.
It's a shame because I do enjoy the game and what it has to offer... but the experience is severely ruined by the clear advantages the devs have decided to give to PvP players vs. PvE players that I list below... but now giving them even more cash by forcing the PvE community to have to use and bring better stuff to deal with the PvE until their cash gets completely depleted by PvP players farming them into oblivion.
If you are currently playing the game, do not complete said quest above if you're enjoying the PvE experience... it basically becomes an even more catered experience towards the PvP players afterwards, and it was my mistake for not reading the patchnotes thoroughly where one line basically says you'll be locked out of the maps in basic text instead of it being in bold and capitalized letters, or even mentioning it in promotional material focusing more on a bunch of junk that doesn't actually tell us anything.
Below is me going into details about the problems before said update which pertains to current update, just much worse:
TLDR, for PvE players they need to painstakingly find materials that can take several runs to gather to build their Cradles (Mechs) along with their weapons. It also costs a ludicrous amount of money compared to how much you can make through the PvE to craft the 'Materials' ontop of crafting the Mech itself. The PvP players on the otherhand rob players of their gear, along with selling said gear for double, triple, and even higher amounts of a payout compared to what a PvE player can accomplish. Ontop of all of this, you'll play with the same people constantly, so enjoy being repeatedly killed by the same person 'Every' night. Also the Cradles (Mechs) that the PvP players have access to have an inherit defense against all the weapons that PvE players have access to... so it's not a test of skill for the PvP player, it's a test of skill on the PvE player to go up against stacked odds to take out a PvP player who has better weapons, better defense, and more cash than a PvE player to kit themselves out. Basically if you want to play a game with these systems, this is for you, but if you, like me, see glaring problems with how unbalanced and unbelievably ridiculous the systems are in this game, then absolutely do not buy this game. Below I'll list in detail these problems:
Let me run some math for you... Weapons in this game go from White > Green > Blue > Purple rarity from worst > best.
In PvE the biggest payout I've accomplished is 50,000, but I average 20,000 on a full cargo hull on a Green mech (If I extract).
Blue Weapons go from anywhere between 48-50k.
Blue Mech pieces go from 132-408k.
For these Blue Mech Weapons and Pieces, you need to craft them which is time consuming... and the moment you're killed, you lose all your gear (Basically anyone can take your stuff at that point).
Now, none of that is a problem... the problem starts when you're a PvE focused player who has no interest in PvP, and when an enemy player does decide to kill you; they're often kitted out, or they take the first shot which puts you literally on death's door if not killed immediately.
Mind you I'm not running out in the open; I'm moving cover to cover aware of my surrounding, while trying to avoid bounty players (Albeit, impossible considering how weighed down you become as a PvE focused player), but all it takes is one good unsuspected shot to put you in the red, or outright dead.
The real problem begins when you're being back-to-back killed by PvP players... I've even spawned and have been taken out by a PvP player... and as this happens you end up losing everything you have down to the basic free mech which is my situation... and you continue to be in a state where you can't fight back only to serve as fodder for these players.
It wouldn't be a problem if the PvE side of the game was able to alleviate a lot of these problems to the point of not being an issue... but it feels the PvP side is incredibly more lucrative than the PvE side of things... especially when you're lobbied with players who are PvE focused that have never killed another player without a Bounty on their head, or have attacked other players in White/Green mechs matched with players who are PvP focused kitted out to kill them.
The CBT progression and atmosphere was not a good reflection of how the shipped game experience would be... and now seeing the actual loop, and how the progression punishes the crap out of players who don't want to engage in PvP... I admit it was my fault for buying it before launch, and even buying into the season pass because I was having a good time until the PvP players started showing up deadlocking me from progressing.
If you're interested in getting into the game... know that you'll be overwhelmingly weak, and will get placed in lobbies with players like this. You can struggle against it, and work your way up... but know that it'll be a brutal uphill climb.
This game is a PvP focused game, so if that's your ballpark, you'll have a good time if you can push through, but if you're more PvE oriented, then it's absolute trash unless they balance the game... but it feels like this is the status quo, so take this information when deciding to buy the game.
