Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection Review (Mute)
At time of writing I only have just over an hour of playtime, but I wanted to write down my thoughts so far. This game is pretty much exactly what you see, it is an okay game if you just want a hack and slash dungeon crawler, so when I went in with necromantic expectations, I was a little bit disappointed. The game doesn't really seem to reward using summons, in fact it's discouraged because enemies your summons kill do not reward you with exp. On top of that, the game feels like it relies too heavily on a random number generator. Your summons have random passives when you acquire and level them up, and they can have a random element as well. Stuff like -5 str, -3 spirit, elemental weaknesses, if you're lucky you might get one with an actually positive trait like +1 str, disable traps, or light up the area around them which will presumably be helpful later in the game. The random traits apply to your weapons as well; quick charge, slow charge, random elements, etc. And each weapon has a random number of either fixed traits, or empty traits that you can apply yourself. And yes, you can put -5 str on your weapon if you want.
The general game design also doesn't really sit well with me. You cannot change your controller bindings for some reason, and you can't disable the mini map. As it stands the game feels more like a free unity game than a legitimate attempt to create a hack and slash with necromancy.
There's also magic, but the basic bolt I found is functionally no different from a bow except that the projectile travels slower. Plus enemies drop stamina in addition to hearts for some reason, and I legitimately don't know why that would ever matter in any scenario except if you wanted to speedrun I guess.
