Super Mega Baseball 4 Review (XxnightwingxX)
It's a lot of fun. Best baseball game available on PC. The visual style is offputting but it has a good sense of humor. The pitching and hitting mechanics are deep but arcade style and adjustable, so you can have some mindless fun or go deeper and give yourself a challenge. The UI is overall pretty bad. The gameplay is fun enough to make up for that, but wish they would overhaul the UI. Viewing stats, switching batting orders, even changing the difficulty is all not a great experience. The Ego system (difficulty) is weird. I would be blowing out the computer double digits, up the ego by like 2 points and then get destroyed by the computer. Also the AI of the batters is a little too meta. They hardly ever swing at pitches out of the zone no matter what your series of pitches were before to set it up or how close to the zone your pitch is. Really borderline pitches that in real life would be called a ball or a strike depending on the ump, hitters you would think would protect the zone with pitches that close, but not here. CPU knows the pitch is not a strike and sits with their bat on their shoulder.
This is not gameplay related, but I also wish there was a way to listen to the soundtrack in the main menu. These songs are all original, and many of them are really really good. You cannot find most of these acts on Spotify, so this is the only place you'll hear them. I'd love for them to release to soundtrack as a DLC or at least allow for us to browse the music in the game. RIght now it's all played randomly in the menus.
Some of these negative you would think would be a lower score from this review, but even with all of that, this is over a fun and positive baseball game I'd recommend.
