Super Dungeon Maker Review (lenightmare1)

Unfortunately my review couldn't fit in Steam's character limit, so I'll be doing a shorter version. If you want to see the full thing check the game's discussion forum on steam, it addresses everything i want added in the game and also the stuff i think should be on high priority.
I'm a huge Zelda fan and a huge Mario Maker fan, so you might imagine my excitement when Steam recommends me a game called "Super Dungeon Maker" for an affordable price. I've played the game for a while and it's pretty fun. The online levels people have made are already really good and they fit perfectly into the Zelda vibe (well, at least some of them), but there's still a lot missing.

The game is in Early Access

At the time of writing, Super Dungeon Maker has the following main items (as in, items used for exploration purposes that you can use):

Grappling Hook
Bombs
Shield
Feather (dodge ability, which can skip holes)
Duck feet shoe (allows you to swim)

These items are cool and all, but a lot of them are missing, mostly the bow and arrow and boomerang, and although the grappling hook can hit switches and paralyzes enemies just like the boomerang, having these items increase the creativity of the levels by a lot, and honestly this same logic goes for most of the game. It's great, but missing things.

The smallest of stuff can turn a decent game into a perfect one

For instance, your character automatically starts with a sword. What if level creators could choose to remove it initially and put it on a chest later on? or heck, not even use it at all. It's these type of stuff that i think would benefit the game immensely, and honestly, it has a potential to be one of the best maker-type games out there.

The game hasn't been update in a few months

Because the devs are apparently working on a switch port, which is really cool, don't get me wrong, but seeing at least signs that they're alive and what they're working on would be great. The only reason we know they're still working on it is because they respond to the questions in the discussion forum on steam

However...

The game is being developed mainly by two people. Yes that's right. TWO. People. The amount of work they've done is nothing short of impressive, but i still think it's important to talk about the game's problems or things that should be added/fixed, because to me, listening to the community's opinion is the most important part of game development, and so far they seem to be adding a lot of stuff through content update, having introduced 3 bosses already with a fourth one already implemented but not placeable on the level editor. I honestly think no one is allowed to criticize them as "lazy" or "irresponsible with time" considering the amount of updates this game already received and the fact they're porting this to the Nintendo Switch. It's honestly impressive what they did here.

So in short...

This game is worth your money, especially because a lot of the community made levels are really good, but keep in mind it'll take a long, long time before this game becomes the masterpiece it can and, should the developers keep working on it, definitely will be.
