Super Dungeon Maker Review (LarryLLazer)
Indie Devs. Does What Nintendon't
Everyone who has played The Link's Awakening remake on Switch knows that one of the new additions to that game is the ability to create dungeons. Well, kinda. The problem with that system is that you're limited to the dungeon rooms in Link's Awakening only, so while you can mess with different layouts of the dungeon. there's not the same amount of customization as we would've hoped. And then there's also the issue where you can only share dungeons locally with friends through Amiibo, which is completely lame. Here's where Super Dungeon Maker comes in.
This game is heavily inspired by TLoZ, and the writing is very self aware of it. The main character is a chicken called Fink. This game gives you the tools to create dungeons any way you see fit by allowing you to actually determine the boundary of each room with different types of floor tiles, walls and different types of doors. In addition to small keys and the large key, you can also gain access to a Shield, Infinite Bombs, a Hookshot, Feathers to help you dodge attacks and roll over certain gaps and Flippers which allow you to swim. There are also lots of different decorations which changes depending on which biome you use. Each Biome also has one unique floor tile, like Quicksand for the Beach, Lava for the Volcano, Ice for the Tundra. On top of all that, you can also upload and share dungeons you create online for other players to enjoy.
There are a few quirks however. This game is NOT finished as of late as the Devs are continuing to work on adding a Story mode as well as fixing any bugs as they work on the rest of this game. However, this game is still very much enjoyable and anyone who is yearning for the traditional Zelda dungeons will have a great time building there own. Can't wait to see what's next.
