Sunset Overdrive Review (MRVPWR)

I'm going to put it simply. This is the BEST open world game, EVER.

I say this because the movement is so fun, even when shown the option to fast travel, I choose not to every single time.

The first 3 hours I was spamming the movement key now understanding how anything was done and seeing colors fly. The best way to explain the change of understanding the game was like the LEGO MOVIE when Emmit finally understands how to masterbuild. You take apart the land and notice the basic elements of the world.

The world can be split in a few categories for interaction. BOUNCE PADS, you may not think it is one, but it is. The bushes shoot you up, cars, sun roofs, solar panels, and you can even make them yourself with the slam jump(when you melee in the air, jump when you meet the ground). RAILS are split between under and normal grinding. Telephone wires are both unless they go under an overpass, where you need to switch to undergrind to keep moving. Edges of buildings, the corners where shingles meet by the japanese museum, and anything that's either an edge or line. Garbage trucks also have 2 and don't work as bounce pads. POLES are simple and really aren't too common when moving. Mainly it's road lamps and signs against walls. WALLS are everywhere for you to run off of.

When it sinks in, it really hits your eyes and how you see the game's world. You are seeing an everyday city, but it's completely different based on this context. Using that knowledge and how to go between them will mean your combo is going up high. 100 combo was a dream, now it's happening all the time. That high combo means really fast meter, and that means more OD kills and more combo.

To put that in a sentence; You have to look at the game in ITS perspective, and that will make you exponentially better at playing.

The game's story is very simple. And the funny moments catch me off guard so often. If you love HIFI RUSH, there is no reason for you not to play this.

MUSIC, OH THE MUSIC IS AMAZING. I'm a huge fan of this style of music. Since I went into the Skate 3 soundtrack a few years back I've been happier with my music taste ever since. (I recommend listening to The Girls, Kitchen People, Jack Off Jill, and The Death Set if you love this game's music. The last one has a song in the game early on when you ride a train, not chasing the train.)

Overall this game brings a standard to games that just hasn't been met by most, and I can only say a handful do when it comes to fast paced movement.

It just leaves a smile on my face every time I play it.
