Strider Review (muresan.catalin)
Fantastic reboot of the series. Apart from some bothersome slowdowns (bothersome because my system greatly exceeds the recommended system requirements) and a bit of repetition, this is a quality game through and through.
Instead of making the game in 3D and getting a mixed response from older fans, they kept the side-scrolling gameplay and made it in a metroidvania style. This is great because it is a „best of both worlds” kind of approach. The 2,5D graphics look great and the gameplay will be imediately familiar for fans of the older games.
Some might say that the game is a little too short at just 7 hours on the easiest difficulty, but it is worth mentioning that unlike other games, there are very few cutscenes and all are very short (under a minute). Of the 7,3h of play at the time of this review, more than 7h was practically gameplay, not me watching a cutscene. So when you think about it, this game actually has quite a good length. Plus it is considerably longer than the other games in the series, with bigger areas to explore.
I consider this the best game in the series. While I did not play Strider II (Amiga), i did play Strider (Genesis), Strider 2 (PS1) and a little of Strider (NES). Apart from the fact that it's not as innovative in terms of gameplay and graphics as the first Strider, it has the better gameplay of the series, that will probably age better as well.
Another great game from Capcom. Highly recommended!
