Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical Review (Frühlingsline)

I am torn on this one. It wasn't what I expected. I had fun! But...
I recommend it IF you are a) willing to play a game for specific parts of it while letting the rest be what it is or b) just want the godly surfer boyfriend. For me, the parts I really liked and which made it worth it for me were: The art, most of the characters, the dialogue between the gods and the interpretations of their history / personalities / relationships. I thought that all of the character designs were genuinely cool and witty. (the main was ok, but more on that below.) Also, I actually really enjoyed the mystery and had no idea what would unveil in the end.
Funnily enough, the character I did not care for was the protagonist who is supposed to be a self-insert, but fails at being... any character, really. She's a character I would write if 17-year-old me tried to write a human into a supernatural story. I found myself rarely choosing any of the "skill" dialogue options because they were very forced (for example, 'charming' options were just straight up emotional manipulation instead of, yk, being empathetic). The romance dialogue I saw was boyband fanfiction material.
Also, the songs all feel very unfinished. A lot of the time the different characters singing doesn't go together and it's cool when they do harmonize at the end, but unfortunately a lot of the time it felt to me like random notes strung together. The mixing is strange, too, very quiet. I like that you can influence the songs, but apparently only the last choice you make really matters.
I usually like to take an achievement guide after playing these types of games with different routes and speedrun all of them after an initial playthrough, but I probably won't be doing it for this one unless I have literally nothing to do.
Conclusion: Get it if it's on sale or watch some gameplay and you'll know what you're in for. As I said, I had fun and I think there's really cool things about it, but I wouldn't recommend it to most people.
