Steel Seed Review (Slug)
First off, I want to thank the devs for being one of the few to still offer free demos. The demo was a great way to show what kind of a ride you will be in for when you play this game.
I am still playing through Steel Seed, but I think I have played enough to know that I definitely like it. The main character, while not super in depth is enough of a force to be able to drive the plot forward and at least make me care about the stakes. The story is actually kind of similar to the plot of WALL-E but with its own spin on things. I actually really like it.
The combat is really fluid and the flow of things is very smooth. This game is mainly about stealth but you're not completely defenseless if you get caught. The stealth followed by the movement is very tight and you can really feel how defined it is. The skill tree is also very good as it doesnt have boring upgrades like "+1.5% extra damage". The upgrades are more like "your robot buddy Koby now can fire freaking grenades at your targets". It makes you want to keep upgrading to add new stuff to your arsenal.
My main issue is with the parkour sections of the game. For the most part, the wall climbing, tight rope, and sliding sections were very smooth. But the absolute worst part, bar none, is the wall running sections. I cannot tell you how many times Zoe would just refuse to jump whenever I told her to jump off of the wall run. Not to mention how it sometimes just refuses to "stick" her to the wall as you will make a jump to the wall run part and just slide off anyway. Most of my deaths in this game were due to wall running.
Other than that though, this game is a very good action adventure game that does really well to keep your attention and keep you invested.
