Steel Seed Review (sillybrian)

This game is solidly decent. I'm not hugely into these kinds of linear action adventure stealth/combat games, though I have enjoyed some. I played through the original Horizon: Zero Dawn, which I feel like provided a lot of inspiration to this game in many ways.
This is a much darker, post-human future ruled by various forms of AI. You awake into a world you know nothing about, so the journey is one of discovery and mystery. This doesn't appear to have any kind of open world, or at least not yet... everything is fairly linear. There are some ability trees and things to unlock that can improve your combat in various ways, perhaps also some things to boost stealth... I haven't gotten too deep into those. There are some cosmetic unlocks, like other suit color schemes and stuff... nothing huge, but it's a nice little addition.
The graphics and animation are great. This is a very lighting/shadows heavy game, so it will be best to play it on a solid PC that you can crank up the effects. There are a lot of really expansive background visuals that I feel really add to the game, and it would be a shame for those to lose quality by playing this on a lower end PC.
The voice acting so far has been fine. The main character is likeable and looks really cool. Combat is responsive and deadly, though at times slightly spongy. This is in large part a stealth game where you are creeping around a room with patrolling enemies and trying to do stealth assassinations the whole time. You don't have to, of course. If you prefer to slog it out you can just do that. You know the type of game I mean. Stealth assassination animations have been very good, certainly adds something to the experience.
I will say the musical score is brilliant, I've really been enjoying that. The story is not the most original in the world, but I won't give spoilers. It's possible that as the game develops there will be twists, but at this point it's a somewhat predictable story line. It's good though, nothing wrong with it.
If you've played through the high priority games on your list and want something light weight with good action, a decent story, good graphics, and not too much thinking necessary... well, this is a good choice.
