Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Review (RakataEpsilon)

9 Patches later and it still does not run smoothly regardless of hardware configuration, to the point where it is just not a good experience to play. A very poor job was done on this port, and it still isnt worth 75% off. Its no wonder why the game director and technical director for this title isnt at Respawn anymore. I never leave reviews but I hope this helps someone else because 75% off was tempting and I still fell for it knowing all the issues this has. I can just go pick this up on PS5 but its just not worth the time.
I think at this point im just done buying games from EA. Been a long time customer from the PS2 days but ive just kinda had enough of them. Its shame because I really wanted to like this one

Edit: 1/8/25

Ive seen some comments on this about my specs. Ive already stated it doesnt matter but ill post them here anyway along with some context. I tried this on the following bc my current rig could not get a smooth frametime graph no matter what I did - even locking to 60 fps to absorb traversal stutter spikes. I still have my older rig as well and decided to boot it up on that one too bc I genuinely thought there was something wrong with my current one. This is why its not an issue of hardware config, this is a shit port and you cannot brute force shitty software with hardware. Its a genuinely bad port. Its not Arkham Knight at launch level bad now (Apparently was getting close to that level at time of launch), but its far worse than Callisto Protocol or FF7 Remake Intergrade at launch (Both I believe have been patched up and good to go - although if you buy a Square Enix game on PC you generally are asking for a bad time).

Both systems running Win10, Nvidia Driver version 566.03 at time of buying this (Again this is patch 9)

Main Rig : i7-10700k
16gb ram 3200mhz CL16
EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3

Resolution set at 1440p. All settings set to Epic, no RT, no DLSS (Because again, this is a bad port, and the RT is fundamentally broken and causes crashes and erratic frametime spikes, aside from a poor presentation anyway)
FPS was usually around low 70s to high 80s unlocked with all of my cores never reaching past 80%, so I just locked to 60 fps for smooth frametimes. I did not get those. In some areas I would even get this weird dips below 60 into the 50s. Enabled DLSS at balanced just for giggles - ran unlocked usually around 110 fps or so give or take. Locked to 60 - bad frametimes. No dips below 60 this time. Encountered no crashes. Still encountered traversal stutter and animation tick rate is broken when FPS is capped. I saw some people here in their reviews too saying Denuvo was removed. Thats great but its not the reason why it ran poorly on the frametime side. Its still there.
I would also get this weird texture pop in that was very aggressive. VRAM Allocation at around 11.2 GB - Actually used was around 10.5 GB. Total system RAM allocation at 14 GB.
Old rig: i7-8700k
16 gb ram 3200 mhz CL16
EVGA GTX 1070 Classified
Resolution set at 1080p. Just ran everything at low settings, No FSR (imo upscaling is pointless below 1440p - not enough pixel data to upscale well at all) and locked to 30 to just see if I could even hold 30 in the Koboh Village Section - GPU utilization at 68% - 74% usually with my CPU cores never breaking 85%. Same Erratic frametimes. Encountered no crashes.

Same texture pop in on this rig. VRAM Allocation at around 7.5 GB - Actually used was around 5.8 - 6 GB. Total system RAM allocation at 14 GB.

Yes, this seems like a fun game, with awesome verticality and plenty to explore, with plenty of great characters. But its no secret this is one of the worst ports in recent history on PC - and remember this got an official apology letter from Respawn about how awful the launch on PC was. I dont know how people tolerated this at launch, its almost masochistic - it somehow runs better on PS5 in performance mode in its current state. But im not going be buying it again. I refunded this anyway so im not revisiting this.
