Star Wars: Battlefront II Review (winchick2)
Pros:
+ Arcade replayability, so you can play this mindlessly while listening to important stuff in background. It can be super intense, or you can choose it to be chewing gum.
+ Customize characters to lean into what you like
+ Everything about original battlefronts is improved, like enemies spawning on top of you or characters moving too slow.
+ 2005 battlefront jedi were ridiculously overpowered, and they fixed that. You will be punished for trying to take on 10 enemies at once with just a lightsaber, but are rewarded if you support and protect teammates.
+ Playing a sniper has gotten both better and worse. In this new game, you can see enemies through walls, and can punch at a distance, but you can't climb to really high places like in 2005. This is overall positive, as it prevents camping and cheesing in multiplayer.
+ Arcade mode lets you make yourself really powerful and enemies really weak, or vice versa, and you can play as jedi only or soldiers only, or both. Lots of choices.
+ The game is simply beautiful. Art team did a fantastic job. Passionate people.
+ Main campaign is fun and not pretentious. Story's meh, gameplay unoriginal, but it's still really fun cuz it's star wars and laser guns.
Cons:
- Can lead to feelings of impotence when, despite all your skill and performance, your team loses to AI.
- The maps should be larger and should have more vertical options instead of just flat maps, especially interiors.
- Map sizes aren't much bigger than 2005 battlefront 2, but ARE more detailed and realistic, not empty.
- Bro, where the **** is the ENGINEER CLASS?! What did you do with my engineers, bro??! Soldier, Heavy, Sniper, Officer, Jetpack, Commando. They kept everything EXCEPT the ENGINEER. Bro. How could you? Just why?
- Offense mode sucks, because friendly AI behaves SO STUPID during offense, much dumber than normal. Defense mode is fine. Supremacy mode is good. Coop is fine. All multiplayer shooter experiences are trash across all games.
Conclusion:
= Buy on sale cuz it's 6 years old now. Holy crap.
= If you're a fan of the originals, you'll 90% most likely like this.
= Play it while you listen to audiobooks or listen to class lectures, or educational podcasts, or something. Sound isn't required here, because the flashy laser-bolts tell you where everyone is so you don't have to hear them coming.
