Star Wars: Battlefront II Review (Spy Boy)
I played original Battlefront II shortly after its release but not online - I was only able to get it from torrents to play with bots. It was mid-2000s in ex-Soviet country which was EU member for only ~2 years at that moment, also I myself was just a teenager, so don't judge, please. That game had some fun single-player modes still and I have warm memories about playing it. Even that its campaign was basically just combination of multiplayer maps - it still had some narrative and followed the 501st clone legion showing us many key-moments of Clone War and Galactic Civil War. I also played Battlefield series back then and was often comparing them to Battlefront. So, when DICE made those Battlefront remakes, I was obviously very excited - the devs of one my favorite series are resurrecting my other favorite series! And DICE absolutely nailed it - they did modern re-imagination of Battlefront using all the modern technologies and their experience of creating multiplayer oriented games. So, as someone who played original titles I can indeed say that remakes of DICE are amazing (and if not even better than originals). Also I actually think that this particular game is better than the first one from 2015 because it brings back player classes and removes strange issue that everyone was running with jetpack. So, it all could have been just perfect if not EA... They obviously wanted to make as much money, as possible, while caring very little about their costumers. Their response on Reddit to one of the players where he criticized terrible monetization which was in this game during beta test became most downvoted commentary in the history of that online platform. EA removed monetization after all the hate they got which was good, but then they abandoned this game shortly after its launch. Without new content and being overrun by hackers - this amazing project started to die... However, I can say that the game still can be enjoyed. If you play multiplayer during weekends or at Friday evening, you can find full lobbies of many game modes. There is also single-player campaign but it has pretty weak and not logical story with a strong female lead - what else did you expect when Star Wars belong to Disney?.. So, to summarize - yes, it's worth it to try Battlefront remakes - just get this one now while it still has some active online (as the one of 2015 is pretty much dead). To me personally everything here is nearly perfect. I still miss the ability to land inside of enemy capital ship to blow up its critical systems during space battles from original Battlefront II (btw, I think that titan mode in Battlefield 2142 was inspired by that), but at least capital supremacy mode here has part of capital ship siege. Just remember one simple thing - Battlefront is not about getting as much frags, as possible. It's not Battlefield and not Call of Duty. It's arcade multiplayer shooter set in Star Wars universe and it's about just having fun. So, here you can simply forget about real world and your adult life and travel to The Galaxy Far, Far Away to have a little bit of escapism and nice time. And that's the whole beauty of Star Wars Batlefront.
