SpookWare Review (YourAverageJoe)
First three chapters of this game are near-perfect. I haven't played a game this fresh and fun in a long time time, worth it just for episode one.
Chapter four is okay, just the setting isn't as charming as the others and spotlight sections take up majority of the chapter and are not fun.
Chapter five is where the game swerves downhill. Gone are the fun themed micro-games that make up the game's core gameplay, and in their place replaced by stupidly difficult timed fps/platforming. Gone is the charming hubworld to explore, and instead there's a linear train where you go carriage to carriage doing trial after trial with little to no interesting plot. The boss fight, usually the best part of the chapter- is still the best part, but that's not saying much. You can be in the middle of a jump, get shot and do a minigame, then forget where you are and fall into a pit.
Chapter 5 is a huge stain on an otherwise great game, but even if the new chapters do get better, I fear majority of players will not be able to play them, due to having to slog through the difficulty of chapter 5. Hopefully it gets an accessibility update or cheat codes, otherwise, the developer's hard work on the second half will go pretty much unplayed.
