Splitgate 2 Review (NGHTRYDE)
Put the stupid politics aside and play the game.
SG2 is an amazingly fun, fast-paced, and cerebral shooter! Fluid as hell with amazing movement to match. I love the skill gap it presents, as thinking with portals truly levels up your game. I'm hooked on coming up with ways to use portals for style plays. Fair warning - though this is an FPS, the portals are going to frustrate a lot of people if they don't embrace them and try to utilize them to their advantage. In the long run, you won't get by too well without them IMO, but trust me, use them! It is a ton of fun and it feels so freaking good to pull off crazy stuff after you get used to it.
If you are familiar with Takedown, the Battle Royal mode is just a larger scale version of it really. I am not that big a fan of BRs, didn't ask for a BR, didn't expect a BR, but boy what they have here is different in great ways. I understand that people hear the buzzword and get a bad taste in their mouths, but with the respawn timers, you don't suffer the problem all other BRs face: sitting there spectating for almost the entire time. Instead, you are down for a few seconds and have the opportunity to respawn if your team has any living members out of immediate combat. This makes gameplay feel more action packed too, since people are likely willing to play more aggressively knowing they can come back if things don't go well but somebody is able to get out safe.
1047 is the first developer I have seen be so open and responsive to community feedback. These guys are trying to do right by the community, and I believe that. There is a lot of good faith just in the past couple days since release. The community was outraged at the microtransaction prices, and 1047 cut them in half already, not even 2 days later. People are begging for ranked, and they have confirmed it will arrive in 2-4 weeks from now. I have NEVER, EVER seen a company listen and act so fast. So give 1047 a break and see the awesomeness they are cooking up. These guys are industry disruptors, and the FPS scene needs a shake up, so let these guys try stuff and see what sticks. LET THEM COOK :D
I highly recommend anybody who was a Halo 5 Breakout enjoyer to play this game. This game is everything I have wanted in a PvP shooter for literally 10 years. 1047, you guys are onto something here that I think changes the way we think in an FPS.
