Spirittea Review (this lit cripple)
If you ever thought you could do better than Chihiro did and you like your games a little on the cozy side, you've got Spirittea. You've just moved into town (like most cozy games) and you're eager to start on your new book. Turns out your teapot is haunted and the spirit hanging out in it implores you to open the neglected bathhouse to get rich quick and save the spirits that are lost in town. But mostly get rich.
The devs are very active, hi devs, and are very happy to receive feedback. They squash bugs and give hints. They're awesome. They're amazing. So let's just get that out of the way.
The game is very cozy coded but feels a little more time management. You can't do everything in one day, but there's also no rush. People leave their doors unlocked and while some spirits and your neighbors are on a timer, there's always tomorrow. Sure, some spirits only arrive during certain seasons but there's no timer. The game doesn't suddenly stop after three years. You go at your own pace and discover at your own pace. If and when that book gets done, it gets done. There's no rush and the land and spirits will heal.
This is my kind of game. There's no threat looming over me that everyone will suffer, die, move away, etc... I'm just here to do my thing. This is what I really want out of a cozy game. That even when my actions are the same ones over and over, there's no looming deadline that someone will swoop in and buy up the town or I'll get docked invisible points for not being married after so many years.
There is no marriage here. You just become best friends. The benefits of friendship is getting people to work in the bathhouse. That's right, friendship is about manipulating people! I mean, they become more in tune to nature around them? ...No it's about manipulation you don't have to feel guilty about.
Honestly it's just a breath of fresh air. It's a game I've really been looking for among all these other titles and just really was happy to find it. Worth the wait.
As of writing this, there's a few bugs and trying to fish is near impossible, but I have some faith. As mentioned, the devs have great communication. So, so far so good. If anything changes, this will be updated.
Potential wrist cramps. You may want a controller for this game for comfort. Some sections are incredibly dark, even with brightness adjusted. Easy enough without a guide.
