Soulstice Review (CalciumMommy Snas Undertale)

This game feels like coming across Darksiders 1 back in the day. You play it, you feel like you are playing a God of War/Devil May Cry clone, but the game actually has a lot of personality and is pretty fucking fun. This game makes me nostalgic for the classical hack and slashes from the ps3/xbox360 era. The camera angles, the way it plays, the items you get, it all feels like a love letter to those early 2000 era hack and slashes. Buy it if you are nostalgic about them.
Edit: Guess this is my fault for recommending it so early. The start of the game is great, but don't let yourself be fooled by it. After a while you are introduced to mechanics that are straight up counterintuitive and go against the design philosophy of the hack and slash genre. Things such as land mines that explode if you are around them too much, spread across the battlefield, making it so you literally can't combo the enemies unless you bait them away from the mines (which are everywhere mind you). Weapons all having literally the same combo but with some properties changed, making combat simplistic and repetitive at times. The camera is not well designed for combat and its a hassle, having to fight against it more than with the enemies.
Overall its a game that had a lot of potential by offering a combat system that is quite refreshing and different from Dmc, Bayonetta etc. never in my life did I expect to see a combination between a hack and slash and fucking Ikaruga of all games, coupled with an actually interesting story with some of the most interesting main characters I've seen in a game like this. Its too bad that in the end its more annoying than fun.
I do believe that this franchise has a ton of potential to grow and I'll follow the devs in case they decide to make a Soulstice 2 with more polish and less fucking mines (seriously, who thought that mines in a hack and slash would be a good idea).
I still think that its worth a try, who knows, you might not be as annoyed as I was by some of the mechanics.
