SoulCalibur VI Review (Sword Symphony)

4 Years later, with a dwindling player base and complete abandonment by the developers, its hard to recommend someone buy this game nowadays.
On a mechanics level, if you're a big fighting game fan this game is pretty likely to piss you off. Shitboxes and tracking verticals everywhere, the game itself is incredibly random and the yomi level is crazy high because of risk/reward of disrespecting your opponents pressure/oki is. After 1700 hours and time spent on nearly half the cast, the game is not nearly as "balanced" as some people in the community will lead you believe. Some characters possess such overwhelmingly strong buttons that they're clearly better than the rest of the cast.
The design philosophy is whack AF. Characters who are more neutral focused have terrible frames on hit, while mixup stance characters are slinging safe launchers and safe hori mids all over the place. Some characters deadass will soul charge and ring you out from dead center stage. The best zoner in the game also has the strongest command grabs. The Ninja's movement is terrible but the Pirate moves like he's on meth.
The netcode is delay-based dogshit, nothing new here.
After 1700 hours, despite my love of the franchise I just can't recommend you buy this game. If you're not already in you're not going to find a player base around your skill level and it will take forever to catch up.
Maybe Bamco will give SC7 an actual budget.
