Sonic Origins Plus Review (ChilliusVGM)
Not worth it, after the years wait basically. Amy as a whole is a flawed character from her 'special move' being something you wouldn't care to use, her sprites being ugly and not correctly made to fit in with the art styles of the games, nor fit in palette wise. Makes her feel unpolished and honestly like a not very well made mod of the game, as opposed to a professionally made and sold product.
The Game Gear games are just yikes, the emulation in this collection for them is shoddy and the PC version has it hit hard with lag/stuttering all around, presumably caused by Denuvo which has once again been left slapped onto the collection. There's also a nasty audio filter on the audio emulation that introduces an extremely headache inducing stereo effect which also removes all bass frequencies from the audio, making it sound sharp, tinny and disorientating.
As well as that, the Game Gear ROMs in the DLC are encrypted in the game's data with a special encryption type, meaning that if you purchase this collection to legally own said ROMs and potentially run them on an external emulator of your choice or real hardware (within legal grounds*) then you can't! SEGA are effectively forcing you to use THEIR shoddy emulation for the collection, which is really odd considering that their SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis Collection on Steam gives you the ROM images for the games you buy in just a folder in the game's directory, which you're free to do whatever with so long as it's within legal grounds.
And I wouldn't even give it a positive for Knux in CD being quite fun because newsflash: he should have been a part of the base game, not the DLC. It's all negatives here folks.
*whilst emulation within itself is not illegal, the act of video game piracy is and I think it is worth a mention that I am not condoning piracy of video games at all.
