Songs of Conquest: Vanir Review (Myfyriwr)

Amazing game and a fun faction, so why the negative review? The fact that a simple new faction and a couple of maps with no campaign or other substantial additions to the base game costs £10 makes me a little sad. Now, I am aware that the price has been well communicated with the community side more active than I am, but how is this approach scalable? Are we all just willing to pay whatever all the other incremental updates to the game will amount to - which could very well add up to premium price in one or two further updates - just because there is a gap between the purchases? Has the terrible state of DLC nowdays just been accepted?
Case in point: the newly announced DLC Rise Eternal promises to offer story and new artifacts, but no new enemies/faction, spells, or other gameplay-deepening systems. Were it a Vanir campaign (which it is not), these two would make a half-decent DLC together! What makes this feel even more money-grubby is the existence of £16 supporter pack, which offers nothing of note. This works for games with continuous free updates like deep rock galactic where players genuinely feel like they are underpaying, but not quite here.
I applaud the developer for being transparent, and let me re-iterate that their game is excellent and a unique homage to old HoMaM games with its own little twists. I just wish the updates were chunkier to justify the overall investment and as is, I would recommend waiting for a hefty discount.
