Software Inc. Review (marinertheraccoon)

So Software Inc. is the grownup version of Kairosoft's Game Dev Story, but instead of focusing only on games it covers simplified software as a whole. While this game is still in development and features are still being added, the software itself is the most basic piece of the puzzle. What the game really becomes is a staff management simulator, filling in your weaknesses with specific kinds of programmers, designers, and artists whom you have to keep satisfied in order to remain productive.
You can also choose to rent existing buildings and make them work for you, or you can lend your creative efforts into building custom towers and warehouses. Going custom becomes a logistics puzzle of being able to quickly shuffle an entire shift of staff in and out of the building fast enough that they're not taking up their precious shift walking around too much. There is also hardware manufacturing for making gaming consoles or phones, which becomes a mini Factorio-style conveyor belt puzzle.
All in all it is a very satisfying game when things are going well; watching your staff flood by the droves, hustle into the cafeteria for that morning coffee, then pound away on keyboards until a meeting or lunch, then more pounding until it's time to leave again and the second shift comes in and repeats it all again. Recently they've added an awards system so it's also a lot of fun to make a trophy room and watch it fill up with your successful titles and rewards for employee satisfaction.
