Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity Review (darkzem360)
What a frustrating game. The art, atmosphere, and sense of style are brilliant. This is a fully realized world with interesting characters and a solid setting. Does it probably owe most of that to Bloodborne? Yes absolutely. Does it owe everything to that series? Not quite. There's enough fresh ideas and fun changes to make this stand out. It also has more then its share of flaws or rough edges too. The lack of a map is maddening. The combat lacks the clean refined polish of the fromsoft games leading to combat that's often much more frustrating rather than simply challenging. Even the text struggles as it's almost unreadable on a small screen (like the one on a steam deck). Yet nothing about this is bad enough to make it a bad game nor is it quite good enough to be a good game either. A little more time, a little more play testing, a little more feedback, and a little more polish and this would have been brilliant but as it stands I find that I want to love this game more than I actually do.
