Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Babylon Pack Review (LextheMighty)
This pack includes one civilization, six city states, twenty-four great people, and the Heroes and Legends game mode.
Babylon
The New Frontier Pass so far has added a lot of game changing, crazy, and overpowered civs, but Babylon may be the craziest yet. When they unlock a eureka they get the FULL tech (But they get -50% science per turn). One moment your in the ancient era and the next thing you know your in the renaissance. This may sound really good for science victories, but as many people have pointed out, in the later eras there are less eurekas to get so you basically have to rely on your spies to get you techs from civs that are ahead of you. In the early game you'll be far ahead, but it all slows down later. I found that they are actually much more interesting to play with a domination or religion route. You can rush to crossbow men in the ancient era and annihilate your opponents. Religion is a bit more situational, but if you spawn close to a natural wonder you can rush holy sites and because of Hammurabi's ability (gain a free building in each specialty district for free the first time that district is built) you can get a shrine immediately. Honestly, there seems to be a ton of ways to play this civ.
Hero and Legends Game Mode
This game mode adds some mythology to the game. Heroes are essentially super units that are incredibly powerful and get bonuses like great people. You "find" them by sending envoys to city states and exploring tribal villages. Then you can recruit them in cities with a monument. The catch is that all of these heroes have life-spans and once they run out or die in combat it takes faith to bring them back. Most of them are very military-focused which is good for domination games, but not so much for peaceful games. There are only a few with non-combat abilities. My favorite hero so far has been Hercules because of his strength in combat and ability to instantly build districts. All of the heroes' abilities are limited by charges so they can't just spam them endlessly. I also like that some of the wonders were modified to include bonuses for the heroes. Although I wish there were more variety in the heroes because the same ones appear every game. Overall this has become my second favorite of the game modes (behind secret societies).
City States
There are six new city states and two of them have tile improvements. My favorite so far is one that gives great general points when you kill enemy units.
Great People
There are 24 new great people that range from really strong abilities (absorbing a city-state into your empire) to less powerful abilities (gain a few envoys or eurekas). The added variety is nice.
Conclusion
The pack is worth it for the extra variety and game mode. Definitely recommend if you like domination games.
