Sid Meier's Civilization V: Scrambled Continents Review (Sphynx)

This is probably one of the least popular DLCs for Civ 5 (and it't no real surprise why). But there is one hidden gem in this - the Small continents Plus map script.
What this gives you is a really good water map with small continents adjacent to island chains (linked by shallow coastlines) which allows for plenty of early sea-based exploration and war if that interests you. But there is also plenty of open ocean so it is not an archipelago map.
It also places about 50% of the citystates on islands and about 50% on continents (this is in contrast to the original 'Continents Plus' that puts all CSs on islands).
This new approach works quite well as being able to ally many early CityStates can dramatically alter gameplay so now there is much more effort required to play toward a Diplomatic Victory. But you still have some Citystates you can meet early. All-in-all it makes for a well-balanced map.
I should also mention that if you play a larger sized map you can actually spawn on some quite large sized continents (contrary to the label).
Personally I rate Small Continents Plus as possibly the best map outside of the generic Pangaea and if you like playing a water based map then this is essential.
