Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate Review (I_iz_Boni)

While this game is a unique concept, I can't recommend this game.
The game is a chess roguelike where you are a singular king piece that uses a shotgun to take out your enemy pieces. The gameplay itself would be fun, if the odds weren't several stacked against you every second you play it. The only way to unlock new content in the game is pure luck: Get the right cards and get lucky to meet certain conditions, and in some cases it's back to luck again for actually getting the card afterwards. The standard gameplay gives you 10 cards to play with, with most unlock conditions taking 3 specific cards at least to actually unlock things like shotguns or new cards. With that and with the way the enemy team is able to move every notable piece at once when you are, obviously, just a King that at base is restricted to single tile moves, can get absurd, and it makes trying to unlock anything in the game an unfair nightmare of dying over and over for either better card draws for what you are trying to do or because of absurd mechanics like a piece dying allowing pieces behind it to immediately kill you, despite a system in the game that is supposed to notify you of risky plays existing in the game.
The game is just way too difficult to do anything in, and it makes going for any kind of unlocks or achievements in it the most agitating grind I have ever seen in a game.
