Shores of Loci Review (FastLawyer)

Experienced on the Meta Quest 2

Shores of Loci is basically a 3D jigsaw puzzle game using completely three dimensional puzzle pieces that naturally fit together (versus the traditional jigsaw puzzle pieces). You'll have to look closely at the puzzle pieces from all sides to find connecting roads, bridges, pillars, etc. in order to connect them to each other. The game currently consists of 4 themed world levels and it took me approximately 2.5 hours to complete the game.
There is a hint system in case you get stuck, but I recommend not using it if at all possible, even if you're stuck. The hint system did not work on the last level, so you will have to just learn to look at the pieces closely. I will say that while I did enjoy the art style and the game in general is beautiful to look at, with flying birds and swimming dolphins in the background, the visuals overall were a bit too low resolution and a bit muddy looking (devs did put this on App Lab for Quest). I also enjoyed the sounds of the game. The game has a soothing soundtrack and nice ambient sounds.
Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting steady 90 fps. I did not experience any serious issues or bugs (other than the hint system not working on the last level). You can play this game comfortable seated. You have a force grab mechanic to pick up pieces at a distance. I would have liked to have seen graphical settings available.
I enjoyed the game, but I have to admit, I liked Puzzling Places better. I would recommend both and I hope Puzzling Places comes to Steam soon. I would hope the dev adds more levels to bring better value to the current asking price. I would also request online multiplayer be added in the future and a way to explore the finished puzzle at eye level in first person view as a reward for solving the puzzles.
Rate 7/10.
