Ship of Fools Review (muffkinmunchies)
There was a Neopets game called Attack of the Revenge where you had to fend off a pirate attack. Your attention was split between swatting back swashbucklers on defense and loading cannons to earn points. Ship of Fools brings back fond memories of that simple design, elevating it to a rogulite co-op. There is a solid foundation for a frantic sea shooting gallery, but the game isn't great yet. This might be a touch easy for the roguelite enthusiast. My brother and i beat the game on our 4th run without getting hit.
The runs have a nice amount of variety for building your ship and strategy and they aren't very long. But there are only 4 bosses in a fixed order, slim pickings for a game meant to replayed again and again. Enemy types that mess with your ship rather than deal damage would be welcome, like something that blocks you from placing a cannon down. Something that throws oil or glue on the deck to screw with your movement. In its current state Ship of Fools is surely fun but there are waters still to chart. (Played via a shared library, if you're wondering about my playtime for the review, lol)
