Shadow War Review (likeucare)
SHADOW WARRIOR 3: THE DOWNGRADED SEQUEL
And again, you return once more in this sequel as Lo Wang, except way unfunny in here. You are stupider, surrounded by stupid characters and somehow, you have to still battle demons pouring into the world, while being invade by a huge dragon. This sequel is different from previous Shadow Warrior games. It is very much like DOOM: ETERNAL, where you go monkey around everywhere at arena places then progress the story. Story? What story? Yeah... I'll get to this...
The game was developed by Flying Wild Hog, same makers of Shadow Warrior 1 and 2 and their first title, Hard Reset. HOWEVER, I found SW3 to be such a DOWNGRADE in EVERY ASPECT of the game from previous SW games. If you played previous SW and Hard Reset and loved them, know that SW3 is different and plays different. SW3 is VERY LINEAR, NO EXPLORATION... unlike SW1 & SW2.
POSITIVES:
+Visuals are pretty decent. I did preferred SW2 visuals though.
+Wasn't a fan at first for the Doom: Eternal gameplay being copied here but it did grew on me.
+New Game +.
+Easy achievements hunting.
+No technical issues, no crashes encountered.
+SW3 is MUCH shorter than previous SW games. A positive in my book since SW1 & SW2 felt like dragging on too much.
NEGATIVES:
-Voice actor was changed and I disliked that VERY MUCH.
-UNFUNNY JOKES... made by 10 year old's or something.
-Story & characters are very low IQ.
-Soundtrack is awful.
-NO side missions or mission based system known from previous SW games.
-NO exploration. VERY LINEAR! You just do some dumb platforming until you reach a battle zone... rinse and repeat.
-Upgrade system is very streamlined and doesn't enable you to experiment much with your weapons.
-Barely any weapons to choose from compared to previous SW games that you had a large selection.
-UltraWide Monitor format is somewhat fine but the Field of View still seems off.
OVERALL:
Many times, trying a new type of gameplay can help make something different and fun. However, I found it very poorly executed in here. At worst, I'd even say this game felt rushed out of development. Smaller scale with no incentive to replay it later.
RECOMMENDATION:
NO. Too disappointed to recommend this game for anyone, especially fans of Shadow Warrior 1 & 2. I can only recommend if you seek some more Doom: Eternal gameplay but then again, it's way more fun in DOOM: Eternal than this copycat game.
PLAY AND STICK WITH PREVIOUS SW GAMES!. SW3 is such a DOWNGRADE.
Even if SW3 is a Flying Wild Hog developed game, it doesn't "feel" to be made by the same developers... such a shame...
FWH... if you do make another sequel, I hope you'll bounce back into success and create your next game right back at the style and gameplay and heck, everything mostly like SW2!
