Seen Review (kakegguk)
The percentage of positive reviews definitely threw off the decision-taking part of my brain, having purchased this game thinking that it'd be wholesome, heartwarming and quite possibly emotional enough to make me cry. I usually wait until I complete a game to write a review, so that I can properly judge the whole story. However, I tried continuing this one on several different occasions and ended up exiting out of boredom (hence the 0.7 hours on record). It should've been an indicator that a good portion of the reviews, including most of the positive ones, have less than an hour or two of playtime. Don't get me wrong, the backstory had potential but we simply know... like, nothing about it.
The visuals of the sad kid chasing his emotional support pet sold this game to me, but it's unfortunately not enough to warrant a positive review. The graphics are just okay, the controls are laggy whenever the character isn't running by himself and pretty much all you do is grab "determination" points (Undertale much?) or run without any direction until you figure out what the hell you're supposed to do (and then, once you proceed, it's not exciting... just the exact same thing in a different font). Any miscalculated step leads you to start that segment over again, triggering a random quote out of an assortment of cheesy phrases that vaguely remote to the determination theme. Not to mention, nearly anything you do gives you an achievement (notice how I have nearly 60 in a game that I've barely spent any time or effort consuming), which implies two things: achieving a perfect score is most likely tedious (if not insanely close to impossible) and getting achievements is no longer fun because it defeats the purpose if you get five per minute, not doing anything to earn or feel excited about them.
I was looking forward to mentioning the positive aspects of the game, but there's rarely any. Many of us ARE that character in real life, and implying he's having a tough time with no solid background doesn't really cut it. The only thing that makes sense is that he's chasing his cat in the beginning, which quickly becomes pointless when he reaches the pet countless times only for it to run away again and again for no reason. What even is the point of the game? All you do is run around and get points with the empty promise that his story will make sense as you go, only for it to seem less and less solid by the minute. It literally just looks like a spicy Geometry Dash or Jetpack Joyride, trying to make you emotional just by insinuating you should be because the character is sad. So am I, and I don't feel for him because I still know absolutely nothing about his backstory or quest and he's costed me money. The only salvageable thing, at this point, is the design of the cat and the fact that it's part of the game... sometimes, whenever it isn't missing-in-action.
In conclusion, the game in general seems pointless and boring, which is a bad combination when your objective is to get users to justify spending their money. I wouldn't have purchased it had I known the only thing you get to do is cry, run around and get points for seemingly no reason or purpose. I really wanted to give it a positive review but, after forcing myself to attempt to enjoy the game on multiple occasions, I realized I just can't. This feels like something I would've played on Friv at the age of 7. Simply not worth it, I'm sorry. It doesn't do anything for me.
