Scene Investigators Review (webg0th)
Would I recommend this game? That's a hard question. There are some things I liked and a lot of things i disliked. It was fun, I enjoyed it, but... I regret buying it. I suggest buying it when it's on a significant sale. I don't really feel like it was worth what I paid for it. But I am also pretty poor and could barely afford it which is probably why I feel that way.
The range of difficulty of the cases was one of the things I didn't like. A lot of them took only ten minutes or less to complete. The final level in the Missing series took me less than five minutes. Probably around two and a half, if I'm being honest. The first mission in the 4th floor also took me around 5 minutes. It seemed like the difficulty rating ranged greatly between the cases, with some being way way easier than others. I wish the difficulty was more consistent, or gradually got harder... as the first two missions in missing seemed to be the longest, besides "Bloodbath." The jump from easy to difficult was like 0 to 100 from The 4th Floor to Bloodbath.
Also, the sound in the game is all over the place. The menu buttons are excruciatingly loud compared to the sound effects in the game (despite being controlled by the same sliding bar in settings). The voices are also pretty quiet even at maxed volume, and the music sometimes randomly disappears for no reason, leaving you in silence. I got used to it eventually, but it was annoying. I also encountered a bug where exiting phones using ESC instead of Q completely froze my game, resulting in me having to close it completely and restart the level I got frozen on. And don't even get me started on how broken the mouse sensitivity is... it's either a turtle's pace slow or nauseatingly fast.
There's also some noticeable issues with grammar in the written / spoken evidence of multiple cases. I assumed it was because of translation, but to my knowledge the game was made from a studio in The United States. It was all simple things like putting "an" instead of "a" in front of words that start with consonants. But still noticeable.
The questions asked about the cases didn't really tell you anything about the case or solving it. I wish they explained the story after you had aced it fully, but they don't. I got every single question correct and still don't really understand what was going on in the majority of the cases.
There was also unnecessary animal violence that literally had nothing to do with the story in one of the cases, which irked me quite a bit. It felt like it was added for some random shock value. It could literally be removed from the case it was in and not make a difference.
Don't get me wrong, the game was interesting to play. I wish there was an option between yes and no regarding recommendation. Because I would recommend it if it was cheaper, but at the price it's at and the length of the game itself... it just doesn't feel worth it.
