Saviorless Review (commando219)
Bravo Cuba! Saviorless is short, but sweet. It feels like a cinematic platformer with more arcadey platforming controls. There's a clear focus on narrative and trial-and-error sections like Another World or Inside. Also like those games, there's a lot of blood and gore. The death scenes are brutal. It's a dark setting with an ominous tone. The obvious highlight is the presentation. This is one of the most beautiful games I've played this year. The art direction is inspired. The backgrounds are crammed with meticulous details. The animation for every sprite is so smooth like an animated film. It feels like a fairy tale you'd see in a picture book with an extremely dark tone beneath the surface. It becomes increasingly more disturbing as you progress and learn the secrets of the setting. Nonetheless, "dark" does not describe the visuals. It's very colorful with nice shading. The sprites are very uniquely designed and menacing. It's a solid puzzle platformer with some welcomed combat sections that were fun. There are multiple endings depending on the collectibles you get throughout each level. The soundtrack is just as amazing and I'd love to buy it if or when it becomes available. It's atmospheric with some lovely melodies. I will say I had some difficulty following the cryptic narrative. One of the most glaring aspects is the translation. I can see some awkwardly written lines of dialogue that feel like they were ran through a translator. I still enjoyed my time with it though. For $13, this is absolutely worth getting. I got about 4-5 hours in my playthrough. (7/10)
