Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Review (garionarren78)

This remake takes the story of the original Romancing SaGa 2 and develops it in more detail while remaining true to what the original game portrayed. The quests, characters, places, items, monsters, skills, etc., are all here with a nice new 3D coat of paint, and the game mechanics have a few tweaks while still remaining mostly the same and being recognizable from the original version. Playing the game so far, I kind of felt like I did when I played the Trails series and I went from the old school Trails in the Sky to the current Trails Through Daybreak series because I'd just played RS2 and RS3 not too long ago, so it's been really cool to see all these familiar faces and locations no longer as pixel-art but in 3D.
Gameplay-wise, it has a ton of Quality of Life features to make things easier and less confusing than the original games, such as quest markers and progress bars to let you know just how far along you are on your way to level up a given skill or attribute and the game has three initial difficulty settings ranging from Casual to Hard (Classic), so it's far more forgiving and accessible than the original version. Having said that, you have the option to deactivate all these QoL features and play in the classic difficulty setting to roughly approximate the experience or playing the previous version.
So far, I've defeated two of The Seven and expanded the Empire to three territories and I'm only starting to play as my second emperor after Gerard and making different choices than I did when I played the previous HD pixel remake so that I can have a somewhat different experience, and I can say that I'm having a ton of fun. If they decided to do a similar remake for RS3, I'd buy it on release date too.
