RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition Review (Movement Or Bust)
The game isn't bad, by any means, but there are some technical issues that are easy to fix yet remain in-game.
The location in which files are pulled from/saved cannot be changed. I had some really cool ideas to use the custom billboards for, but I can't put any images into the game because the "Documents\My Pictures" folder you are supposed to put the images in doesn't *really* exist anymore. It does *technically* exist, but it's a windows protected shortcut to the windows "Pictures" folder and as such, a giant pain to try to work-around access to. It would be incredibly easy for the devs to just allow you to pick what folder(s) the game pulls from in settings, but as it stands things such as custom music and images just aren't usable.
The weirdest thing is, there is actually a folder in "Pictures" that is named "RCT3" but it simply just doesn't work. It's like they tried to fix it, but forgot to actually change where the images are supposed to be pulled from.
To be honest, I think the game is really fun, but taking away the main thing that I was hyped for kinda just ruins it for me, especially when it's such an easy fix for the devs to make, but haven't made despite people posting about the issue over the years.
I will happily switch my review to a yes if the devs put out a patch that allows the user to change the folder(s) where custom assets are pulled from.
Things can be a bit unclear (menus and whatnot), and I actually don't have a problem with this, it fits the era in which this game came out, but I imagine it may make the game a no-go for most new players.
