Rogue Legacy Review (dts)
Excellent game, featuring a rather interesting heir system, where your consecutive tries at conquering the castle are followed by additional quirky traits (which are mostly harmless and are intriguing, most of the time) and diverse pool of classes, weapons, talents and spells.
I really liked the games' style and settings, although it is rather simple. I have listened to music on my initial tries, but later on muted it so I could listen to podcasts and the likes, since the game can be kind of played on "auto-pilot".
Game progressions requires you to complete the whole game multiple times, and to reach a true ending you need to do it around 7-8 times. There is an option to skip all these tries after the first completion, and you will just have to complete the game at high-difficulty without having learnt boss patterns, mechanics and foes' behavior. I personally find no problems with such progression, although it leaves me stifled that theoretically, the character progression (where you improve you characters' stats) will take you more than hundreds of hours, although it is not necessary, since I have completed the game within 100 hours without having turned on Home Rules.
Speaking of Home Rules, those are settings which can allow you to change your enemies' health, damage dealt and how many artifacts and upgrades you can have per run. A handy mechanic, sure, for those who struggle or may flame on the game and just make it easier to complete certain steps.
Overall, the game has been a blast and a very entertaining experience, with each run being different and unique. The only thing that can dampen your enthusiasm is achievement hunting, which would require you to complete additional game modes or look into other sources to see how they are done (I'm looking at you, Full House).
