Road Redemption Review (veedwood)
Closest thing you've got to Road Rash that runs on modern systems. It's a great game in its own right and isn't just a good Road Rash game in 3D. The game focuses more on combat eschewing most things that'd actually make it something you'd consider an actual racing game. Not to the game's detriment, mind.
The combat is relatively deep, and there's lots to master.
The campaign setting is completely surreal and doesn't even try to maintain coherency to any of it at all. The game has nothing approaching the atmosphere and vibe of the original Road Rash PC game from the 90s. Which is actually something I miss, that and the concept of the riders having distinct personalities and tactics.
Wish they'd expand it with a more realistic setting and more down to earth mechanics.
Something to note, though it doesn't affect the gameplay any, is that aesthetically the motorcycle models are almost all really lame and unconvincing - whoever designed them obviously has no more than a passing interest in motorcycles, which'll be obvious to anyone. I'm by no means an expert, but they're really derp.
Aesthetic shortcomings aside, as a game, it stands on its own as an excellent and addictive indie take on the old motorcycle combat concept, with a more bombastic and surreal B movie approach to the world it offers you to thrash through. The campaign could've been more fleshed out, or the game could've used some extra ones, but for the price, the excellent replayability more than makes up for it.
P.S., the music in the game is atrocious. My tip is to disable it and run some tunes you like in the background yourself - biker rock, e.g., Acid King, is an excellent match.
P.P.S., online multiplayer does not work. I'm here for the single-player, but it's still a disappointment.
