RimWorld Review (The Blind One)
There's a few reasons why you shouldn't buy this game and why I don't recommend it.
1. It will suck up your time like no tomorrow. Oh what's that? It's already tomorrow and you got to get to work? Fuuuuu!
2. This game is honestly kind of mid ... it's not bad but it's not as amazing as the 98% rating would tell you. It's extremely overrated in that regard. The UI is terrible, the Quality of Life features are practically non-existent. The graphics are low res trash, it has an inconsistent art aesthetic, the combat is jank, pawns are brain dead and there's a lot of head-scratching moments where you are left to wonder why in gods name the developer implemented something in such a half assed simplistic way.
3. The game advertising itself as a story telling game is just developer code for RNG event spam of 'you're getting attacked by 100 cats who went man hunter', which is fun, the first time but not the 37th time it happens. The game has actually very little meaningful story telling mechanics, everything is RNG spam. You cannot influence the larger world or have any meaningful diplomacy and interaction with other factions and pawns themselves never change and are static entities in terms of character development, aka they have none aside from replacing their kidneys and arms with bionics after they get blown away.
The vanilla game is a 6/10 at best.
4. But it's also actually really really good if you download 100 mods to fix all the UI and Quality of Life issues. That'll make the game easily a 7/10 by fixing many of its issues that frustrate you as a player making the game 'decent' enough that you'll want to replay it a few more times trying new strategies and builds.

Oh but wait ... there are more mods you can download to also change all the half assed mechanics that the dev implemented and you can now change them to something that is significantly more immersive and interesting ... this makes the game way more fun ... these game improving mods easily make the colony simulation aspect an 8 out of 10 game.
5. But let's not stop there ... there are also hundreds more really cool and amazing mods the size of whole DLC's you can download that completely change the gameplay, aesthetic or feel of the game created by wonderful people of the community and the community is honestly amazing. All of a sudden you have access to spaceship combat DLC and medieval overhauls for FREE. There is literally sooo much content here that it will blow you away.
6. But that's not what this game is. This game is technically just the vanilla game. And the vanilla game without mods and without DLC. It's honestly pretty mid. The DLC improve it somewhat, particularly Ideology and Biotech do a decent job at fleshing out the colony lives of your pawns. These DLC improve the rating that this game deserves but for the price you have to pay for both DLC and the base game never going on a sale. You'll feel ripped off if you had to buy it today for the full price. Is it worth it? That depends entirely on whether this type of game is for you or not, you really have to love colony sim games with jank combat to enjoy this. I would NOT recommend it ordinarily to people otherwise.
7. I bought the game and DLC as it came out and for that reason it was never a big investment at once as I played it over the course of years adding new DLC and mods as I went which made it affordable. Since the game never goes on sale and the base game is no longer in development, it's merely being updated to support the sale of the DLC's. This game isn't worth the $100+ it asks of a new player for the whole experience.
For that reason, it is overpriced what they are asking new players and for this reason I do not recommend it.
But I also recommend it if you are into modding the game and are willing to try the base game first and slowly buy into the other DLC and download all the other free crack I mean content provided by other users ... like an addicted and abused patient you'll come back to this game for your next colony fix eventually.
Conclusion:
Mid game 6/10 but with mod crack it's easily a 9/10.
