RimWorld: Ideology Review (TTV Devi_Red)
This DLC is by far my favorite, but I understand why it gets some mixed reviews so allow me to elaborate.
I've seen some reviews that talk about how it doesn't really allow for things like holy wars or watching your ideology spread throughout the land and I get it. That would absolutely be awesome. A lot of others are upset with how little this overall affects your game, and to them I'd say you're right. This DLC does not require much change to your playstyle. Because thats not the point of this DLC. This DLC is here to give you the option of how much or how little you want to engage with it. You can set your ideology to standard rimworld ethics and call it a day and not change an inch of your playstyle. Alternatively you can create a group of cave dwelling nudist cannibals that love to raid other camps and actually get mad at you if its been too long since they last ate human flesh or last saw someone die on the other end of their rifle scope. You can make a group of ranchers that think broccoli is the devil and women shouldn't be given power, or a group of technology loving misandrists who's sole goal in life is to create a world without men through the power of technology.
The Ideology DLC is not going to change your game unless you want it to. It is in essence a love letter to the RP side of the community. My current playthrough is for a group of northmen that worship the flame and are constantly trying to survive in the cold unforgiving north as they seek refuge from Vama the betrayer and his wife the mistress of the hunt. They burn effigies to ward off the dark and cold and seek Arcturus' frozen scepter so they can become a site for Northmen to travel to and worship.
Absolutely none of this has anything to do with "winning" the game. If anything the time and resources I've dedicated to exploring this DLC have actively slowed my progress towards victory. But let me tell you guys a little secret. I've got 1500 hours in this game and I've never won. Not once. Thats not what I enjoy about this game. Its the stories that me and my colonists write that keeps me coming back, and this DLC is full of opportunities to do just that, write stories.
