Ride 5 Review (Tourq)
This game is really freaking good. It is not a Ride 4 clone. I don't have a lot of hours yet but I just absolutely LOVE motorcycles and my Honda VTX 1800 is almost my daily driver. I wanted to get this review out while its on sale cuz I'm telling you, its a steal. This game actually has so many subtle things about it that make it incredibly immersive as a rider myself that I can just appreciate so much.
Graphics\Immersion: First andf or most, wow. I use a RTX 4070 with a 1920x1080 monitor. I cranked the graphics to the max and then was even able to run it at 3840x2610 and just made it even better. The reflections, the weather, the light, its the newest game so of course its gonna look better right? What I wasn't ready for was how realistic the movements of your driver are. You stack that on top of the graphics and jeez, your almost there. Like I said, I ride my bike ALOT and when I saw my rider move his but around in the seat down the straightaway after a set of tight turns, I felt that. No lie, I 95% would have done that there because you gotta find your seat sometimes. If you get bumped, your guy looks exactly like you would, body does the wave as you hang on to the bike. Hitting your max speed down a straight away and watching your ride just gripping through those beyond highway speeds as the camera shakes ever so much with the intense wind. You just really feel it. Its just amazingly helpful for the immersion and I have not seen better.
Game-play: The career mode is really cool. It offers a great sense of progression without the sense of a burden somehow. I actually found myself turning lap after lap after lap on Monza time attack just so I could get better. No other racing game would you ever catch me doing Time Attacks more than I absolutely had to. Its just fun to get better and learn the track and breaking points. It has a button press to enter rewind mode so if you suck or if the AI gets too aggressive, it has a generous amount of rewind time so you can back your self up and give it another go from where you want. It even has a little slow motion effect for a few seconds while you can ease back into the action instead of you just having to have the controls already pressed when you hit Resume. There is a bad, when you wreck or fall off or what ever takes you down, your rider rag dolls kinda but it just looks...off. Its a little immersion breaking but no more than hitting the rewind button when it happens.
AI: (on Medium) These dudes don't give one care about you or your feelings. If you are slow and in their way, you will be moved. I find this irritating at times but only usually when I fall off the pace or make a mistake, they just have a hard time avoiding me. Honestly tho, with the rewind, I can see what I did wrong, correct it, learn from it and not get hit again so it, so I don't blame them as much as myself. I don't know how much you can make an AI on this bike react without just messing up the whole field or immersion, ya know? So I am ok with the AI.
Online: I'll update this when I do it but for now, you can download liveries other people have created and put it on your bike.
Customization: Its better than I thought. There are so many brands and variations of gear to wear from visor colors, helmet types all the way down to the gloves and boots. You buy these with in game currency you earn from participating in races. Your bikes are pretty basic, you can purchase rims, remove mirrors and the plate and such. However, you unlock paint jobs via purchasing the bike with the paint job. I tend to find the online liveries better tho, I have yet to try and construct one.
Physics: This is a "SIMCADE" type game. I find it much more enjoyable than Ride 4. There are also a ton of assist options you can manipulate to help you race and get into the groove, learn the track, braking points and your bike. You can easily turn these off one buy one and some even have levels of effectiveness so you don't can ease out of the assist vs just going "cold turkey". On top of their awesome and effective assist systems, they will reward your progression away from these system with money from racing. Each degree of assists you take off, will net you more money per race. It will even break it down after the race for you to show you what you are getting and why you are not using for example, off track assistance that makes it easier to control the bike if you run off. We have rewind tho so I find that better.
This is the best time to buy this game. I watched reviews and was on the fence and now its my favorite bike game ever.
