RetroRealms: Halloween Review (jbthrash)
A lot of old school 2D mechanics in this game. The levels are designed well to give the player freedom but also a challenge. It feels a lot like a classic Castlevania game with a Halloween theme. The stages are hand crafted and not procedurally generated. This is not a rogue-like or a metroidvania.
There are secret collectibles and you can play as 2 different characters for added replay-ability. They even went to change the story depending on who you play with. You can also play as the Evil Dead characters if you buy that game too.
I’m fine with the price, but I can understand wanting a little more. I think more added games and characters will help the value in the long run.
On the downside I wanted more wall cling/jump sections and I wanted the pogo to be important to more stages. I also wish they would tell you how many tickets you found at each level.
The game is also kind of easy if you just blow through it and don’t collect everything or go for achievements.
Other than that if you like these kinds of games and Halloween then I highly recommend!
